Circular to the Schools of Barcelona
Madame:
To encourage families to the instruction of the youth, and to uplift them through public worship of our Religion, the Board of Directors of the School of Virtues resolved to offer to several schools for girls of the city the seven principal virtues: faith, hope, charity, prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance. Each school must present the name of the virtue assigned to it, designed in a small banner and put at the other side the image of the title of the school. The banner must be privately owned by the school which has embroidered it. Three girls assigned by the Directress will serve as banner holders in the procession. A church official will be responsible and will supervise them under each banner, and will take charge to bring the girls back to the Directress.
I am confident that our proposal will be accepted by you. The Board has agreed to entrust one of the theological virtues – Hope - to the School which operates under your charge.
May God keep you and grant you many more years.
Barcelona, August 1852.
