Discalced Carmelites. Modification of the Rules according to the existing laws, by Fr.Francisco Palau y Quer.

Fr.Palau concerned about saving what could be saved of the Order, suppressed by the Government, preoccupies directly for the good of the nation and the Church. He accommodates his fledgling work, complying with the provisions of the laws, "extends charitable works for the good of the neighbour: one, for the school and another for the sick." These rules were written in his spiritual retreat in Vedra, in 1863, on the first days of September (Letter 96).
