As a good narrator he describes the dramatic situation in the city of Calasanz and its surroundings. There, the daughters of Fr Palau attended with care and professionalism to the plague victims. He never thought that in joining in solidarity with them he would contract the disease that would end his life. The typhus was the consequence of this calamity, preceded by years of bad harvests and famine.
